If you get a pay and go SIM card can you swap your contract number and contract onto the new sim

In a word no. You need a contract sim card. They are free if you need to do a sim swap and can be done in any o2 store.

PAYG Sim cards hold different info to contract ones so you must make sure you have the correct type for your account.
