IPhone 3GS - unlock process question

[ Edited ]
Hi all I had an old IPhone 3gs sitting around and gave it to a friend some miles away as I upgraded to a 4S. I have completed the request to unlock the phone and am waiting for confirmation. The next stage of the process I understand is to plug the iphone into itunes to complete the unlock. It says that there must be a non-O2 sim installed. My question is - do I have to plug this into my tunes account (the one I set the phone up with originally) or can it be plugged into any itunes account? I do not have the phone so if this is the case I would need it sent back. Apols if this has been asked before but 2 hours searching in the forums and I cannot see question asked. Cheers

Re: IPhone 3GS - unlock process question

I think you need to insert another SIM in from another network as a security measure . And make double sure if you are unlatching from the network you are unlocking. There must be a reason for the re-authorization through Itunes. In fact, wouldn't you be better De-authorsing the device in Itunes as well. It would probably have to be a VF/Orange/T-Mobile or Virgin Mobile SIM rather than Tesco, Giff Gaff.

Re: IPhone 3GS - unlock process question

I would think that it would unlock in any itunes , i may be wrong on this but i think it uses itunes to check with the apple servers that it has been authorised for unlocking ,i have had 3 phones unlocked by O2 and all have been done within a couple of days with no problems ,one thing i did find out the hard way was when i used an old Vodaphone sim to unlock but it totaly refused to work ,i discovered that it has to be an active sim and not one that has been lying around unsed for ages lol

good luck
