IO Play

Hi, today I tried something else and I thought that I'd pass the results. This time I switched off 3G and wireless (thinking that less communication with the single aerial my help). In fact, this time on my 30 mile journey (about 50-60 minutes travel time), things were quite a lot worse. Probably, I had about 10-12 long drop outs with about half of them failing to reconnect. Interestingly, the short stutters were a bit longer this time- I know that this isn't statistically valid. Also, the interesting thing is that for the long drop outs the iPhone carries on playing the track- it doesn't pause so by the time you reconnect (manually if needed) then you have missed some music - even worse for an audio book. This seems to suggest that the dongle is failing to pick up the information pumped out of the iPhone as the iPhone keeps playing regardless. I hope this helps.

further update

Sorry if this has been mentioned elsewhere. I tried using airplane mode and this stopped all the long dropouts. Obviously, this makes the phone inoperable. This would seem to suggest that phone can communicate fine with the bluetooth adapter and the adapter can see the phone output but when the phone has bluetooth turned on then the adapter suffers from interference???

Ioplay and iPhone 3gs works fine...

Guys, just thought i'd let you know that the new 3Gs works fine with the Ioplay. Had mine a few weeks now and not had any issue with drop out or swapping between calls and playing the ipod on the phone...infact i'd say it works a treat! I have gone from using a Nokia 6500 which worked fine to the IP3Gs which works just as well....

Not sure what is different inside the Iphone 3gs but whatever tweeks have been made seems to have fixed what has been mentioned on here with the 3G version.

Also works great streaming music with one of the Internet radio apps from the apps store provided you are in a 3G coverage area (which near London I always am)

Yes, it works perfectly, sadly Apple need to fix the functionality of the forward and back buttons. I've heard this is a known bug and being looked at rather than Apple simply not allowing it.

IO Play

I was just about to purchase an IO Play, to use in my car with my iPhone 3G but am now not sure......after reading this thread.

I have upgraded my phone to OS 3.0, which enables stereo Bluetooth (or A2DP as some refer to it), can anyone confirm if this will work without the drop outs mentioned, as I certainly will not buy and fit this product if there is any chance of my music dropping out.

Or are the hardware changes that they've made to the 3Gs the reason why these drop outs do not appear to be happening, as they do with the original 3G iPhone.

For those that have had issues with drops outs, I assume you've had a full refund based on the fact that the item is not fit for purpose....trades description act !!!

Seriously? The above 2 posts weren't clear enough?
There are no drop outs on an iPhone 3g running 3.0 software using it's built in A2DP.
