Current pay monthly sim into unlocked iPhone 5S

Anonymous
Not applicable

Hi guys,

Today I have put my HTC One M8 sim (existing pay monthly account) into a 5S which I intend to use from now on. Apple dropped the price so fancied a change.

I was having issues getting it to pick up 4G , so I called through and apparently they needed to amend my account.

They said it will work from midnight onwards.

Does that sound about right? Just seems quite awhile considering it's just an admin tweak rather than a technical issue.

Midnight is when the systems update, it's quite normal.
If you look in your My O2 you will see your current data bolt on listed as "pending removal" and you iData one will replace it tomorrow.
I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.

Currently using:
Pixel 7a (O2 & Lyca), One Plus 6 (Sfr), iPhone 12 Pro Max (Vodafone)

Yes it does.

An idata settings is needed to use in an iPhone which they will have actioned for you on your account.

Changes do take effect typically from midnight.

A help thread if required http://community.o2.co.uk/t5/Apple-iOS-Devices-iPhone-iPad/Connecting-iPhone-to-Data-Services/m-p/54...

Also check here to ensure your masts are ok and 4g is available http://status.o2.co.uk

You need a 4g compatible phone, a 4g SIM card and 4g tariff to attain the service too.

Thanks for your help guys.

Noticed I had 4G this morning at home, great.

Got to work and i'm down to 3 bars of 3G. With my HTC One M8, I would get 3 bars of 4G easily.

Is the radio in the 5S really that much worse?

O2 Carrier is showing ver 16.0

Modem firmware 2.18.02

If this gets any worse with iOS 8 i'm going to struggle. lol

I did notice it flash on to 4G while it was sat on the desk and it dropped soon as I picked it up.

I am using the official leather case.

Thanks guys, really appreciate the help.

Signal strength can vary from phone to phone.
Some are better than others but the iPhone is usually not too bad.....

Other people at work reporting there was an outage on Saturday.

I wonder if it's not fixed for O2 users. The vodafone side is now ok.

Just had a look on site...

Sorry a phone mast in this area isn't working
This means your service might come and go until we fix it.
Updated 08:00 (refreshed hourly). Recent faults might not show yet.

Well that explains that then. lol
