Connectivity Issues

Hi, Facing the same problem since the time I have joined O2 with iPhone 3GS 32GB. Had my SIM card replaced but the problems did not get over. Calls going over straight to voice mail and also not able to place calls when I am in full connectivity.

Have written to O2 support again but haven't heard back.

Calls straight to voicemail

To those who are having this issue: Are your phones jail-broken?
And if not, have you restored it to a fresh start?

Calls straight to voicemail

To AJ84, No, none of the three iPhones I've had have been jail-broken, and yes, the restore was the first thing I was told to try by O2.

I've since been told by another advisor to try resetting the network settings on the phone each time I have a problem with calls not coming through, my argument was, it would be too late once I know I've missed a call, however, I've tried it a couple of times, and as far as I can see it makes no difference!

To O2tel, I will be cancelling my O2 contract as they are not providing the service I'm paying far too much for! I cannot even make or receive calls, or send and receive texts reliably, and the voicemail messages left when their network doesn't allow calls to come through, despite having a good if not full signal don't come through for hours!

The problems it's caused when someone sends me a text saying they need picking up in 15 mins, I don't receive the text for ages, ok, so the network providers often cover themselves, saying as long as it is delivered within 72 hours they aren't responsible for them being late etc etc, a terrible condition as far as I can see, it should be instant, and if not, why not, especially if your still paying for your text messages on Pay As You Go. So then after the person realises I'm not coming or haven't received the text, they may try the more reliable calling me, only to find it goes straight to voicemail, so they may leave a message, or get annoyed, assuming I have my phone switched off. Then I may not get the voicemail for several hours. An utter disaster, which has cost me dearly in upset people, being late, people not being able to get hold of me, missed deliveries, the list goes on.

O2, get your act together, you've unlocked my iPhone, thank you, you strung that out for the full 14 days though! Now I can test all the other networks, once I've found the most reliable of the networks in my area, expect to be ending my contract early, as you have not net your side of the contract terms and conditions, the service is not what I am paying for! Infact, I deserve some money back, as you've been overpaid in comparision to what you've supplied. Also recently the data side of your network has been terrible, with a couple of days the entire data network was unusable!

I suggest others vote with their feet if you are being ignored by O2 about this matter, being fobbed off by being told to restore your phone, turn 3G off etc etc. I've jumped through all the hoops, it's cost me more time, they still get paid each month, I'm still getting a terrible service and an unreliable network on O2. So, I'm leaving O2 at the earliest possible opportunity, and I WILL NOT under any circumstances be paying to end the contract early, it's their fault and I won't be penalised for it.

Push

The most consistent way of overcoming this problem is to turn off your push e-mail, which although is annoying, really seems to work. I suggest people download a mail-pushing app which will notify you when new mail arrives instead.

Calls straight to voicemail

The problem I have with turning off 'push' is that it disables Find My iPhone, which I paid Apple a few quid for the privilege of having via MobileMe. Apple and/or 02 need to sort this out.

Push

Noddy, when you say you turn off push, do you mean turning off all push notifications? I only mean turning off Push E-Mail, ie. The updating of the mail icon as soon as you are sent an e-mail. I am not that familiar with MobileMe, but I would imagine the push service it uses would be distinct to that of e-mail. I have mine switched off and still get notifications from all push-enabled apps.

Calls straight to voicemail

turing off push mail, turning off 3g are just work arounds and not a real answer, i think this is disgusting that 02 FORCE us to have a data plan with the iphone, when almost 80% of the time i have no 3g signal (even though the whole town i live in is covered in 3g according to o2's very own coverage map) by the way its not a city i live in its a small town near leicester and nottingham. now im not really up to scratch with laws and stuff, but surely this is false advertising and/or being miss sold an item?

Gets worse.

every advisor iv spoken to at o2 are useless, suggesting that the iphone is faulty or the sim card is faulty. basically fobbing me off. i decided to play there game, i had a sim swap and in the process of getting my iphone replaced (up to 28 days without it but still forced to pay the full monthly amount) and if i wanted a replacement phone (not an iphone and i would have to pay £25 for it) thankfully i have a spare phone but i still cant use any data services as its a 2g phone.

Im doing this to prove that its the network at fault and not my phone or the sim cards. hopefully giving me some leverage on getting some kind of solution, even if it means terminating the contract early.

Calls straight to voicemail

I've had these issues of missed calls (some go to voice mail direct, others get nothing) for the past 6 months. O2 simply tell me "must be your phone..... speak to Apple" or we'll send you out a new sim.

It would be far easier if they'd just admit their network is overloaded and cant cope.... but I can understand why they don't.

My contract expires on 8 Feb. I was going to go onto the simplicity tariff for the iPhone. But since they have revoked O2 Open 30% discount, I will be leaving for Vodafone.

If it plays up on there (which I doubt it will) I'll be returning it to apple.

Somehow though, I just know the problem is O2. Why? 'Cos my missus has the same problems and 3 or 4 people I work with.
