Brand new iPhone 5s switches to GPRS

Anonymous
Not applicable

I signed up to O2 from Three last week, and upgraded to an iPhone 5s. At irregular times and in different (formerly connected) locations, it will switch to GPRS, and sometimes to E instead of 4G. This has been happening all week. I have switched it on to ariplane mode, then switched that off, but it still goes back to GPRS. WIFI works fine. I'm in a non 4G area (Brighton), but I should still get 3G.  Help!

Hi GogglesGal,

Check the link Bambino has suggested to check your local masts.

Brighton is showing fine but you should key in your full post code.

If its showing ok then may be the phone needs a reset.

Press the top button and home button until the Apple logo appears and then let go and the iphone will reset.

A second reset is Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.

Other options are ;

Remove your sim and clean it with a clean dry cloth.

Have the sim card replaced at an O2 Store where they will perform the swapmysim procedure. It can take up to 24 hours to reset your connections.

Download the MYNETWORK App from o2 and report the mast.

Ask people in your area on O2 if they are having issues and ask them to report the masts too if they are having issues also.

Have the iphone checked out at your local Apple store.

Thank you for the advice-nothing has worked. I have had an O2 guru twice change my settings, have had the sim replaced, and gone back and had the phone replaced. Mast says everything is running fine. But I cannot get internet if I leave WIFI.

I can only repeat and say Download the MYNETWORK App and use that to report the mast.

Ask friends and neighbours who are also on o2 to do the same if they are having issues.

If your iphone is unlocked try another uk network sim in it to see if signal is obtained to rule out the iphone at fault.

1. Buy phone, doesn't connect to inernet outside wifi.

2. O2 guru changes settings

3.Still doesn't work.

4. O2 guru changes sim.

5. Still doesn't work.

6. O2 guru changes settings.

7. Still doesn't work.

8. Phone replcaed.

9. Does not work.

I have tried the factory resets, ariplane mode, etc etc. From other forums it looks as if it an O2 4G problem, not an iPhone problem.
