upgrade confusion

Hi inspoke tonsome one at o2 about an upgrade and they said i had to pay the remander of my device plan firsf but iv just been looking and it says i can upgrade even if im still in contract with them can any one help me please

You can upgrade at any time but you must pay your current device off first.

You need to pay off the device plan first and then take out a new Refresh contract to upgrade.
