It will be nice to see less fragmentation on the Android platforms.

The next stage I'm wondering is how and when O2 release this to their customer base.

Maybe @Chris_K can advise if he knows more yet.

Too soon for any of that I'm afraid. The Nexus devices tend to be the first in the world with the newest Android OS for a period of a month or two. O2 won't get software to begin testing right away - with HTC for instance, our builds tend to go live around the same time as the open market one or sometimes a few days sooner. So we may get the software just a couple of weeks before the expected release date.

As and when I get updates on us receiving/testing/approving these Lollipop i'll keep everyone updated.

At best I think the Nexus in Nov, followed by Google play editions in Dec and mainstream skinned handsets in late January early Feb, just in time for MWC

The existing Nexus devices are said to be getting Lollipop 'within weeks' so expect longer still for android devices. Other mobiles noted here :

According to what I have read only the higher-end smartphones will get being updated. Android release a SDK (Software Development Kit) to OEM developers who then place their UI around it. 90 days is the ballpark figure for turnaround and announcement of a fully-working update, so expect it to be more like 4 or 5 months if things get delayed.

The last LG update took around 6 months and had to be fixed because of an Audio DSP bug, around a month later.
