Lollipop, lollipop, where for art thou lollipop?

I am here, says Lollipop while standing atop a shiny Samsung Galaxy S5!

Okay enough of the ye olde talk – Lollipop means business. If you thought Jellybean was buttery smooth, then you’ve not seen what Lollipop can do. This is a major platform update and isn’t just a collection of minor bug fixes or anything like that… This is a full blown update – new eye candy, new & fresh menus, new features – all while keeping the system running smooth & fluid while keeping your battery life in check too. You can find out here what Lollipop can do > http://www.android.com/versions/lollipop-5-0/

The update is now live via KIES and should be live via OTA update towards the end of the week, so go grab it now and let us know your thoughts on the new update

The problem is 5.0 was found to be buggy hence why Google relased updates so quickly to fix the issues, 5.0 was pushed to manufacturers when it wasn't properly tested but it was to late for them to skip 5.0 all together as they had already started working on it.

Well my rant about 5.0 is over, sure I knew I wouldn't be able to return it to O2 for a swap, but I wanted to emphasise my level of dissatisfaction with the upgrade.

With regard to 5.0 manufacturer's already working on. They can continue to work on but they don't have to roll it out. Take the work from 5.0 and merge it into the followup bug fix releases. Then release it.

That way you don't annoy your customers.

That would be to sensible. To be honest what I can see happening is Samsung deny any problems even though its well documented and just ignore the problems. S6 will be out soon, their focus will be on that.

I downgraded to 4.4 again but the issue is it keeps downloading OTA updates.

Barrie, I would imagine that the likes of o2,ee, etc are under contract with Google to release any updates that have been deemed fit for release.

The general impression I get is that there has been a lack of testing (could it be that we are the testers) and any feedback that was given to Google has been pretty much disregarded.

AND if thats not bad enough, why is there no guide to the changes/enhancements!

Ok been using over a week now. So thought i would add more thoughts since my last post in this thread

My advice if you do want to install lollipop from kitkat is... wipe phone back to factory on kitkat... then ince you have clean phone then run update as various things wont work if old kitkat certificates are on phone when you update

For example i cant install some of my of my old apps becuase a kitkat certificate on phone cannot be overwritten once lollipop installed causing play store errors

Google authentication app is one of them

another bug i have is with email.... i open email and in the reply section it is frozen... i have to keep force stopping email then reopening.. tried wiping email app and redoing but bug remains

Sound and notifications are a pain... i understand how it works but it does feel a leap backwards. .. and future android versions will loose this i bet

Speed and battery... i cant complain.. does feel faster and does last longer too

But the unstable apps is really anoying...

Hi Tim

By wiping back to Kitkiat, are you saying to use the ODIN method as couldn't see a way via Kies?

Then upgrade to lollipop, before restoring any apps/data/settings?

Getting really frustrated with this release

Ernie

No, he meant do a factory reset before upgrading to lollipop and then again afterwards.
If you try and flash back to KK you risk blowing the Knox fuse and your warranty.

Ok so I can't see why this update is better or makes everything smoother....
1. I have to select the home wiz everytime I press the home button.

2. The most annoying thing is when on lock screen I can no longer pull down the tab at the top to read messages I have to unlock to use this feature. Waste of time. Can I turn this off from the lock screen as it is useless
