Because the phone updates are linked to the CSC which you have told me is an O2 one.

Yes, you can re-flash your phone with generic unbranded UK firmware if you wish.
Let me know and I'll link you to a tutorial and the files you need.

If you have Knox on the phone and you downgrade the firmware, it will trip the Knox fuse and the warranty will be void, however, going up a level of firmware will not.
If you don't have Knox you can safely flash anything at all - up or down.

So we are still waiting for our Note 2's to update to kk 4.4.2 and yet as you can see the note 2 LTE version from other carriers are now getting their kk 4.4.2
