Ok, so just a quick update. I reverted to v2.3.5 Gingerbread (XWKJ1) for a week and recieved no duplicate texts.
I then upgraded to v4.0.3 ICS (XWLP3) with -no- downloaded apps installed, purely stock. I did this via Odin as well as I've heard Kies can sometimes mess up. I also did a factory reset and cache clear via the recovery menu beforehand.
About a week in and hey presto the duplicates are back again!
So it's looking like this will be an O2 repair job then? As I can't clear this 'Dalvik' cache without invalidating my warranty.
Thanks for all the good response guys!

Another update for anyone interested...
I have now sent the phone off for repair to O2 twice. The first time I don't know what they did, but it didn't fix the problem, duplicates reappeared within a couple days.
The second time it went for repair they sent me a new/refurbished phone. 'Problem solved' I thought... unfortunately not. Somehow the duplicates are still coming.
I have now completely run out of ideas, to date I have done the following with no avail:
- Factory reset (both from phone settings and recovery menu)
- New SIM card
- Rolled back to GB and then back to latest ICS (XWLP3) installing no apps
- Sent for repair to O2
- Replacement phone (running XWLP3)
The only thing left I can think of is my actual phone number/O2 account, but don't even know if that could have this affect. I don't get the problem on my spare Sony Ericsson W995. Nor on my S2 when its running Gingerbread, so surely this must be an ICS bug...that only affects me.
Any ideas appreciated, but I'm starting to think I might just have to revert to Gingerbread permanently.

I think I've found the solution!!! It appears to be a problem/bug in the modem/phone part of the firmware on ICS, with LPR anyway.
My original S2 that was getting duplicates was running the following:
PDA: XWLP3
PHONE: XXLPR
CSC: O2ULP4
I then flashed a Gingerbread modem (just the modem, so I am still running Android 4.0.3) to the phone (KH3 to be precise as I heard it was a good one). So my setup is now:
PDA: XWLP3
PHONE: XXKH3
CSC: O2ULP4
Its been a week now and no duplicates! General signal also seems to be better in most places and also doesn't fluctuate wildly whilst sat still on my desk.
I hope this helps anyone else with this problem, strange and rare as it seems. Still find it odd though, as its clearly a problem with the LPR modem, but not everyone has the issue.

Hi, I seem to have developed the same issue 5 days ago.
How did you find out the LPR on your phone and did you root the phone to flash the modem?
I can only see the below info on my S2 (bought from CPW - being used on O2):
Model Number: GT-I9100
Android Version: 4.0.4
Baseband version: I9100XXLQ6
Kernel Version:
3.0.15-I9100XELPT-CL941023
dpi@DELL169 #3
SMP PREEMPT Fri Jul 2718:08:15 KST 2012
Build Number: IMM76D.XWLPT
I have also changed contracts from one O2 contract to another in the last week but was getting random number of duplicate SMSs both before and after.
Any ideas?
