Data locked when switching from 4g back to 3g

Recently purchased a new HTC One M9 from Carphone Warehouse on O2.

Fairly happy apart from patchy signal by my house despite O2 coverage checker showing full 3G and even small pockets of 4G.

My main issue is that for some reason when I go from a 4G connection back to 3G despite the phone showing a decent signal nothing that requires a data connection will work.

To resolve this I simply have to go in to airplane mode and back out again.

This is not ideal as I commute a fair distance on a daily occurance so this has to be done multiple times throughout the day.

I'm not convinced this is an O2 issue though as I had the same issue with my initial purchase of the M9 through Vodafone, due to terrible signal everywhere I went.I took that phone back and replaced it with one on O2.

Has anyone else experienced this or know of a more permanent solution?

Try your sim in another phone first.
If that cures it I'd say it was a fault with the modem in M9's and therefore would be worth you talking to HTC to see if there was anything else they could suggest.

Considering I've had the same problem with 2 phones and 2 sims on different networks I've decided to raise it up with htc as you suggested.

I will post whatever response I get (if any)

Cheers. Will be interesting to hear what they have to say.

Turns out that htc support is actually quite rubbish.

I never got a response to my email so I decided to give them a call.

After explaining everything to them they tried to blame it on coverage.

It would sound reasonable if the area wasn't about 50 miles in radius.

All he said was to go back to carphone warehouse, looks like I may have to argue with them and get a different phone, shame as I like this one but it's no good if it doesn't transition between 4g and 3g.

Have you managed to find any evidence of others having issues with this phone at all?

I've not found much in the way of UK users having similar issues.

There is the well published issues in the US with sprint but I'm not sure it's the same.

Just a bit stuck now, not sure what's the best course of action.

I would still push HTC to take a look at it under warranty.
It may be something as simple as an antenna fault which there test rigs will show up.
